"So here's the deal," says the Gingrich, "because you have released me from a thousand years of confinement in the lantern, I will grant you one wish; money, power, fame, anything you want. But here's the catch: whatever it is you get, your poor brother will get twice as much."
"You mean," says Max, "if I ask for a million dollars, that deadbeat gets two million?"
"That's right," says the Gingrich, "and if you ask for a beautiful woman, your brother who drives the old dented beater gets two beautiful women."
"All right, Gingrich," says Max. "I know what I want."
"What's that?"
"I wish I were half dead."

Newt the Toad don't need no stinking facts. How about the wages of the working poor have taken such a hit that more people that actually are working qualify for food stamps. You can see his lips moving, he needs to stick his head a little further up his backside. I hope he wins the GOP/TP Love Fest so he can be sent packing his bags for the final time in total disgrace.

I posted this earlier, but it goes with this story too. Remember when Newt and gang were all excited about putting poor kids in orphanages?

Resurgent Republicans in Congress under Newt Gingrich are breathing new life into an idea whose time most people thought had already come and gone.

They want to bring back orphanages and other forms of state-supervised residences to care for the illegitimate children of young women who would be cut from welfare rolls under their proposals.

Read it all--they were 100% serious.

re: #4 Alouette

Well, there is that couple in Seattle who committed massive fraud.

The wingnuts always want to make those rare exceptions the general rule in the public's mind, that's how they sway the public sentiment. Expect to see many more stories like this as the right tries to make the case that food stamps are a gravy train. What's bad is that right now food stamps, welfare, unemployment and other safety net services are needed, really needed, so people in the US do not starve. It's at this point that the demagogue attacks.
